Police in the Aswa West Region have launched a manhunt for a 45-year-old man following the death of a woman in a suspected domestic violence incident in Gulu District.

The case, registered at Gulu Central Police Station under Murder CRB 180/2026, concerns the death of Amono Nasiline, a 34-year-old peasant from Penya Village, Pugwiny Parish in Owoo Sub-county.

According to the Aswa West Region Police spokesperson, David Ongom Mudong, the incident occurred on the evening of 3 April 2026, at around 8:00 p.m., and was reported shortly afterwards at 8:30 p.m. by Kayola Robin, a resident of the same area.

Preliminary findings indicate that the deceased reportedly followed her husband, identified as Tekwo Walter, to the home of his co-wife, located approximately 200 metres away. It is alleged that tensions arose over the husband’s relationship with his two wives, leading to a verbal altercation.

Police say the argument quickly escalated into a physical confrontation as the couple moved back towards Amono’s residence. The confrontation reportedly continued inside the house before reaching a climax.

“Shortly afterwards, Amono stormed out of the house and collapsed at the doorway, where she died instantly,” Ongom stated.

Police officers, including the District Criminal Investigations Department (D/CID) homicide team, Scene of Crime Officers (SOCO), and officers from Owoo, Patiko, and Bungatira, visited and documented the scene. Witnesses have since provided statements to aid investigations.

The body of the deceased was transported to Gulu City Mortuary for a post-mortem examination.

Authorities have intensified efforts to apprehend the prime suspect, Tekwo Walter, who is currently at large. Police are also searching for the co-wife, considered a key witness, to assist with ongoing investigations.

Community policing efforts have been conducted in the area, with police calling for calm and cooperation from residents.

Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
