New Leadership for Northern Uganda Volleyball Association After Year of Inactivity

GULU CITY— The Northern Uganda Volleyball Association (NUVA) has ushered in a new administration following fresh elections conducted on Tuesday, 14th July 2026 at Heldan Hotel in Gulu City.
The elections were organized by the Uganda Volleyball Federation (UVF) after the association was dissolved last year following the impromptu resignation of Chairperson Ms. Varinia Dieperink and a year of inactivity.
New Executive Elected
Sports Administrator and Journalist Daniel Okwee was elected unopposed to serve as Chairperson for the next three years.
“Okwee comes with a wealth of experience running Volleyball in Uganda and in the CAVB Zone V, and we are confident that with this new crop of ExCom, they will steer the Association to new heights,” said Tonny Lakony, UVF Technical Director, who presided over the elections alongside National Referee Instructor Innocent Komakech.

- Chairperson: Daniel Okwee
- Vice Chairperson: Maxwel Kasozi
- General Secretary: Jane Etap
- Assistant General Secretary: Daniel Walegu
- Treasurer: Kelvin Kinyera
- Secondary Schools Representative: Francis Okot
- Primary Schools Representative: To be elected
The new ExCom says its immediate priority is to develop a technical plan to revive the game in the region.
“We have to develop our technical capacity and revamp Volleyball in Schools as a feeder to the clubs,” Okwee said after his election.
Northern Uganda has a strong volleyball tradition and has produced top national talent including former National Team Captain Dickens Otim, and professional players Daudi Okello, Sharon Amito, Carlos Omua, Godfrey Onapa, and Marino Oboke, among others.
NUVA covers Acholi, Lango, and Karamoja Sub-Regions.
Other regional associations under UVF include West Nile, Upper Eastern, Lower Eastern, Central, Mid West, and the Central Region.
The new ExCom is set to meet in the coming days to develop a strategic plan for the region.
