NUVA launches national referees training course in Lira City

Lira — The Northern Uganda Volleyball Association (NUVA), in partnership with the Uganda Volleyball Federation (UVF), officially opened the 2026 National Referees Training Course on Tuesday, 11 August 2026, at Lavington Park, formerly known as Coronation Park, in Lira City.

The three-day course is running from 11 to 13 August 2026, with 32 participants from Lango, Acholi, Karamoja, Buganda and the media fraternity in attendance.

The course is being facilitated by FIVB International Referee Innocent Komakech, who is leading both theoretical and practical sessions at Lavington Park.

The training was officially opened by Daniel Okwee, chairperson of NUVA, who welcomed all participants and facilitators.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Okwee said: “We are excited to host this very important course as we start to rebuild volleyball in the region. With this course, all of you have begun a journey towards becoming FIVB International Referees.”

The chairperson emphasised that quality officiating is key to the growth of volleyball in Northern Uganda and urged participants to take the training seriously.

Successful candidates will be certified to officiate NUVA- and UVF-sanctioned matches during the 2026/27 season.

The Northern Uganda Volleyball Association is the regional body mandated to develop, promote and regulate volleyball in Northern Uganda under the Uganda Volleyball Federation.
