Lira City — As the shock of the death of gospel singer and music producer Samuel Lolo continues to spread across Northern Uganda, details have emerged about the circumstances surrounding his death and plans for his burial.
Lolo Sam was found dead inside his Bar-Ogole studio in Ojwina Quarters, Lira City West Division, in an incident that has shocked the region’s arts and religious communities.
North Kyoga Regional Police Spokesperson SP Patrick Jimmy Okema confirmed that preliminary police investigations indicate that Lolo Sam died by suicide by hanging. Officers from Ojwina Police Station secured the scene and began forensic investigations. Police are finalising the documentation as the region mourns the loss.
Following the completion of preliminary police procedures, attention has turned to honouring the late producer’s life and legacy.
Family members and funeral organisers have confirmed that Lolo Sam will be buried on Friday at his ancestral home in Awelo, Kyoga County North, Amolatar District.
Gospel artists, church leaders, studio clients and fans from across Lango and neighbouring districts are expected to travel to Amolatar to pay their last respects.
“Lolo Sam did not just sing gospel music; he built the foundation for dozens of local choir groups and young artists through Sunrise Studios. Losing him under such circumstances leaves a painful silence in our creative community,” a fellow producer in Lira City said.
As police continue investigating the circumstances surrounding his death, the incident has renewed discussions about mental health, isolation and economic pressures among independent creatives and young entrepreneurs in Northern Uganda.
At Sunrise Studios, where Lolo Sam produced numerous gospel songs, his death has prompted community leaders, clergy and fellow entertainers to call for stronger support systems and open discussions about mental health within the arts industry.
QFM News will continue to follow developments, including updates from the vigil, police investigations and Friday’s burial in Amolatar District.
