Residents Burnt Suspected Livestock Theft Vehicle to Ashes in Kwania,Four Arrested.

KWANIA DISTRICT: Residents of Bung in Teduka Ward,Aduku Town Council,Kwania District,reportedly set fire to a Toyota Noah vehicle suspected of being used to transport stolen livestock,as police arrested four people in connection with the alleged theft.

The incident occurred today Thursday,August 13,2026,after residents reportedly became suspicious of the vehicle and raised an alarm over livestock allegedly loaded inside it.

Moses Amwata,the Bung LC1 Chairperson, told Radio Q FM that residents noticed the Toyota Noah parked in the area and decided to investigate.

According to Amwata,residents discovered livestock inside the vehicle that they suspected had been stolen.

The situation reportedly escalated,with angry residents setting the vehicle ablaze and reducing it to ashes.

Lucy Achato,a resident and livestock owner, said the alleged theft angered residents and prompted them to intervene after becoming suspicious about the animals and the vehicle.

Dorcus Wangari,the Aduku Town Council Councilor said she received a report from the Gender and Integrated Security Office (GISO) and that she visited the scene to assess the situation.

Wangari urged residents to avoid transporting livestock at night without proper documentation.

She said livestock buyers should have documents proving ownership and showing where the animals were legally purchased.

“People should not move livestock at night without documents showing that they legally bought the animals,” Wangari said.

Kwania District Police Commander SP Kadoogo Paul confirmed that police received a report on August 13,2026, concerning a Toyota Noah registration number UAP 736K,which was allegedly being used to transport suspected stolen livestock.

He said police intervened and arrested the driver together with three other people who were inside the vehicle.

Geoffrey Okello,the GISO of Aduku Town Council,said preliminary information indicates that some of the livestock allegedly involved in the incident originated from Bala in Kole District and Akalo,among other areas.

The suspects arrested include Emmanuel Opio,a resident of Adyeda Trading Centre in Teduka Ward,Aduku Town Council,Opio Ashan,also known as Murefo,a resident of Bala Town Council,and two others identified as Okello and Walter,who are reportedly residents of Lira City.

Police have opened investigations to establish the ownership of the livestock,how the animals were obtained and whether the suspects are connected to other livestock theft cases in the region.

The incident has raised concerns over the growing tension surrounding livestock theft in communities,with authorities urging residents to report suspected criminal activity to police instead of taking the law into their own hands.

Police are also expected to establish the circumstances under which the vehicle was set ablaze and whether any further action will be taken against those involved.
