A police officer attached to Namukosi Police Station in Mityana District has been fatally stabbed in Gulu City following a domestic dispute with her boyfriend.

The incident, registered under Gulu CPS CRB 207/2026, occurred on April 22, 2026, at around 2:30 p.m. in Library Cell, Bardeg Layibi Division.

The deceased has been identified as No. 82983 PC Akera Harriet, while the suspect, Apire Denis Brian, 26, a mobile money agent and resident of Laliya Dwol Cell, has been arrested.

According to preliminary police findings, the two had been in a romantic relationship since 2023 but had recently developed misunderstandings. The officer reportedly traveled from Mityana to Gulu on April 21 to resolve their differences.

On the morning of April 22, the pair met at Flamingo Guest House at around 7:00 a.m. before separating. Later in the afternoon, they reconnected in Library Cell, where another discussion turned into a heated quarrel.

During the altercation, the deceased allegedly attempted to arrest the suspect, accusing him of theft and calling for help from bystanders. In response, the suspect reportedly drew a knife from his waist and stabbed her in the back and shoulder.

She was rushed to Victory Health Centre for first aid and later referred to St. Mary’s Hospital Lacor, where she was pronounced dead at approximately 4:50 p.m.

Police initially registered the case as attempted murder before upgrading it to murder following her death. The suspect was rescued from an angry mob at the scene and is currently in custody.

A team of investigators led by D/IP Mugisha B. John visited and documented the scene, while a knife believed to have been used in the attack was recovered as evidence. Witness statements have been recorded, and a postmortem examination is pending.

Preliminary findings indicate the suspect purchased the knife earlier that day from a local market shortly before the fatal encounter.

Police spokesperson David Ongom Mudong confirmed the incident and stated that inquiries are ongoing, with a comprehensive report to follow.

Authorities have urged the public to seek peaceful means of resolving disputes as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the killing.
