Museveni Eulogizes Anyuru Family, Reflects on Early Recruitment into Civil Service

OYAM — President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has paid glowing tribute to the late Mzee Abdalla Anyuru family, praising their historic and patriotic contributions to Uganda’s nation-building during the send-off of the late Sam Bua Anyuru.​

The President’s message was delivered on Saturday by the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Vice Chairperson for Northern Uganda and Senior Presidential Advisor, Hon. Denis Hamson Obua, during the burial ceremony held in Aber Sub-county, Oyam District.​

In his condolence message, President Museveni extended his heartfelt sympathies to the family, government, and the NRM fraternity, noting that the Anyuru family holds a significant place in the country’s post-independence history.​

A Legacy of Public Service and Sacrifice​

President Museveni recalled that the family’s patriarch, Mzee Abdalla Anyuru—who served as the Chairperson of the Public Service Commission during the Obote I administration—was among the high-profile professionals who suffered extrajudicial killings under Idi Amin’s military regime.​

The President pointed out that such targeted purges of intellectuals and leaders ultimately triggered the institutional collapse and decay of Uganda’s nascent civil service, military, and business sectors in the 1970s.

He emphasized that the Anyuru family’s sacrifice remains a vital footnote in the history of Uganda’s resilience.​

The Final Send-off​

The deceased, Sam Bua Anyuru, who was the son of the late Mzee Abdalla Anyuru, passed away recently while in France. His body was repatriated and laid to rest at their ancestral home in Aber Sub-county.​

As a gesture of solidarity and comfort to the bereaved family, Hon. Obua handed over a cash contribution of UGX 10 million from President Museveni to assist with burial arrangements. The funeral drew several local leaders, elder statesmen, and residents from across the Lango sub-region who gathered to pay their final respects.
