ALEBTONG— The Assistant Resident District Commissioner of Alebtong, Lameck Ongom, has launched investigations into two government-funded health projects worth UGX 99,275,000 over allegations of shoddy work, incomplete construction, and falsified completion reports.

The projects involved the construction of Outpatient Department (OPD) buildings and related infrastructure at Awei Health Centre III and Anara Health Centre III during the 2025/2026 financial year. The contract was awarded to Nabesha Company.

According to ARDC Ongom, a physical inspection of both facilities revealed that works were either incomplete or of poor quality.

The contractor was also reportedly absent from the sites

“The district leadership is considering blacklisting contractors who fail to deliver quality work on government projects.

Firms with a history of poor performance will not be awarded future contracts in Alebtong,” Ongom warned.

The probe follows a formal complaint by Awei Sub-county LC3 Chairperson, Sam Oyena Obonyo. Oyena accused the supervising district engineer of approving substandard work and submitting misleading reports claiming the projects were complete.

He alleged that key components in the contract including terrazzo flooring, ward pits, placenta pits, and medical waste disposal pits were never constructed, despite reports indicating otherwise.

“This is a serious misuse of public resources. Those responsible must be held accountable,” Oyena said.

Alebtong District Chairperson, Ambrose Ongom Ongom, confirmed receipt of the complaint and pledged a district-wide review of all government projects implemented in the 2025/2026 financial year.

He said inspection teams will be deployed to assess every project before any pending payments are made to contractors.

“We will also hold a public accountability meeting where residents will be told which projects were properly executed and which require corrective action,” Ongom added.

He assured residents of Awei Sub-county that the district remains committed to value for money and that any contractor or public officer found culpable will face disciplinary action.

Engineer Ogwok David , the contractor is yet to give his comments about the allegations as his known numbers when unanswered
