LIRA CITY – More than 500 teachers from four regions have begun marking the 2026 UCE and UACE Mock examinations in Lira City, with the exercise taking place at Lango College.
The marking exercise, which started on Tuesday,August 18, 2026,brings together teachers from the Lango,Acholi,West Nile and another participating region to assess mock examination scripts for Senior Four and Senior Six candidates.
The exercise was officially opened by Canon Jane Acio Obeny, the Lira City Education Officer, who urged teachers involved in the marking to maintain professionalism, integrity and fairness throughout the exercise.
Canon Acio Obeny said teachers should strictly follow the marking guidelines and standards used in the Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) and Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) examinations.
She also encouraged the markers to apply their expertise when assessing candidates’ work, saying the mock examinations are intended to help learners understand their strengths and weaknesses before sitting their final national examinations.
According to Canon Acio Obeny, teachers should not view the marking exercise as an opportunity to undermine or discourage learners, but rather as part of the preparation process aimed at improving their academic performance.
She further cautioned teachers against compromising the marking process, emphasizing the need to uphold honesty, accuracy and professionalism. She pledged continued support and supervision of the marking exercise.
Meanwhile,Isaac Ocoo, the Lango Sub-region Chairperson for the Association of Secondary Head Teachers of Uganda (ASHU),reminded teachers that the exercise is not the official Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) marking process.
Ocoo said the mock examinations are part of the learners’ preparation and urged teachers to use the exercise to identify areas where candidates need additional support rather than abusing their authority during marking.
Evalin Ayugi, the Executive Secretary of the LASMEA said the marking exercise involves teachers drawn from four regions.
Ayugi said a total of 7,807 candidates are sitting for the UCE Mock examinations, while 2,296 candidates are sitting for the UACE Mock examinations across the participating regions.
The marking exercise at Lango College is expected to continue for ten days, after which the results will help schools and teachers identify areas requiring improvement ahead of the national UCE and UACE examinations.
The exercise is part of efforts by schools and education stakeholders to strengthen candidates’ preparedness, improve academic performance and familiarize learners with examination standards before they sit their final national examinations.
