17 Injured in Lira-Aduku Highway Crash

LIRA, Seventeen people were injured on Saturday Night after a FUSO lorry collided with a Gulu University bus at Bongcao Center along the Lira-Aduku highway in Lira City West Division.

The crash occurred at around 8:00 PM on Saturday 4th, 2026.

Police say motor vehicle Reg. No. UBK 662J FUSO Lorry, white in color, was carrying market vendors from Aduku Market heading to Lira City at a relatively high speed.

The Fuso lorry was from Bongcao Market, it collided with Reg. No. UAK 482G Isuzu Bus belonging to Gulu University.

The bus was reportedly returning from a traditional marriage in Boke areas and was joining the highway from a feeder road when the impact happened.

All 17 injured victims were rushed to Lira Referral Hospital and Lira Midtown Clinic for medical attention. Police say particulars are not yet established, but most victims have since been discharged.

The scene was visited by the Division Traffic Officer, Lira City West, alongside other officers. Both vehicles have been towed to the Lira City West Division parking yard pending IOV inspection.

However, figures from the Uganda Police Annual Crime Report 2025 reveal that road deaths continue to rise even as overall crime is falling.
