Two houses belonging to Ader Village LC1 Chairperson, Odoch Edward, were reduced to ashes

OYAM, North Kyoga —The Uganda Police Force in North Kyoga Region is investigating an arson incident that left two out of four residential houses burnt in Ader Village, Ader Parish, Otwal Sub-county, Oyam District in the early hours of 23rd July 2026.

The targeted homestead belongs to Mr. Odoch Edward, 64, the LC I Chairperson of Ader Village.

According to police, the attack occurred at about 12:34 a.m. Unknown persons deliberately set fire to four houses at the complainant’s home.

Despite efforts by family members and neighbors to put out the flames, only 2 houses were saved.

The fire destroyed property including:
bags of soya bean ,sacks of maize ,Kitche utensils and Various farm tools

Preliminary investigations indicate the attack may be linked to the Chairperson’s duties.

Police say Mr. Odoch had been involved in the arrest of Okaka Peter in June 2026 over alleged cattle theft.

Following that arrest, the LC1 Chairperson reportedly received threats from members of the suspect’s family.

He later told police that individuals linked to the suspect had been seen surveying his home. Investigations into those threats were ongoing at the time of the arson.

A witness further told police that on the night of the incident, several suspects were allegedly overheard discussing plans to burn the Chairperson’s houses.

Police have arrested 4 suspects to aid investigations. They are identified as:

  1. Okaka Peter
  2. Ojok Ambrose
  3. Obura Dennis
  4. Aremo Bonny

The case of arson has been registered. Statements have been recorded from the complainant and other witnesses.

The scene was examined by DPC SP Ayikoyo Sydney, the Scene of Crime Officer, detectives and uniformed officers.

“The Uganda Police Force strongly condemns acts of arson and all forms of criminal violence.

We urge members of the public to remain calm, cooperate with investigators, and refrain from taking the law into their own hands as investigations continue.
