Otuke District Local Government has officially handed over a newly constructed two-classroom block and a modern drainable latrine worth more than UGX 66 million to school authorities.

The handover ceremony included the commissioning of a two-classroom block at Ekwee Primary School, constructed by Ayat Engineering Services Limited at a cost of over UGX 42 million.

The district also handed over a modern drainable latrine at Oboko Primary School, built by Join Hand Investment Limited at a cost of approximately UGX 24 million.

Assistant Resident District Commissioner (ARDC) for Otuke District, Mr Isaac Opio Opeo, reported that the contract for the classroom block was awarded to Ayat Engineering Services Limited on 15 September 2025, with the project completed on 20 June 2026.

He added that the contract for the drainable latrine was awarded to Join Hand Investment Limited on 18 September 2025 and has since been completed and officially handed over.

Mr Opio commended the Government of Uganda, under the leadership of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, for its continued investment in education infrastructure across Otuke District.

He noted that improved classrooms and sanitation facilities will enhance pupils’ learning conditions, improve hygiene, and contribute to better academic performance.

He emphasised that district authorities will continue ensuring that all school-age children are enrolled in school, warning that parents who deliberately deny their children access to education will be held accountable.

The Assistant RDC further said that district leaders will closely monitor the use and maintenance of the newly commissioned facilities while working with education stakeholders to raise education standards and improve examination performance.

Otuke District registered commendable performance in the 2025 Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) and the Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) examinations, with leaders expressing optimism that the new education infrastructure will further strengthen learning outcomes in the district.

Attempts to reach the Otuke District Education Officer for comment on the commissioning of the new classroom block and drainable latrine were unsuccessful at the time of publishing this story.
