Kampala, KCB Bank Uganda has called for secure land ownership, responsible financing and legal compliance for stronger collaboration to transform Uganda’s real estate sector. The call was made during the Land Law, Real Estate and Construction Conference (LREC) that took place at Mestil Hotel in Kampala from 3rd – 4th August 2026.
Held under the theme “Bridging Law and Real Estate for Sustainable Growth”, the two conference convened representatives from the Ministry of Lands, Baylor Global Real Estate, and Makks Advocates to discuss fraud prevention, verification frameworks and stronger collaboration between public and private sector players.
During the keynote speech, Isac Mukiibi, Mortgages Relationship Manager at KCB Bank Uganda, said the conference provides an important platform for stakeholders across the real estate value chain to jointly address industry challenges and identify practical solutions. “We are delighted to be part of this agenda because it brings together different stakeholders in the real estate industry to discuss the issues, challenges and opportunities in the sector. We believe that if there are challenges, they must be solved by all of us working together to make the industry stronger and contribute to Uganda’s economic development,” Mukiibi said.
Representing KCB Bank, Valuer Andrew Nuwagira shared insights on the role of financial institutions in promoting secure property transactions through proper valuation and verification processes. KCB Legal Manager Sheillah Abamu delivered a keynote on gender and family division, family welfare and land justice, highlighting the importance of equitable land ownership and legal protection for vulnerable groups.
The second day shifted focus to financing and investment, with Hillary Byonabye, Senior Legal Officer at KCB Bank, joining a panel on Mortgage Law and Affordable Homeownership, where stakeholders explored practical solutions for expanding access to affordable housing and strengthening Uganda’s mortgage ecosystem.
The conference concluded with discussions focusing on affordable homeownership, mortgage law, real estate investment trusts (REITs), capital markets, condominium law and insurance, as stakeholders explore innovative financing models and policy reforms to expand property ownership and unlock sustainable growth in Uganda’s real estate sector.
“As a bank, we want to assure stakeholders that there is a better tomorrow. We can find solutions to the challenges facing the industry and move forward together. Through our mortgage solutions, we are encouraging Ugandans not to wait until they have all the cash to own property. They can use today’s income to finance a home or land purchase and repay over 20 or 25 years, making property ownership more accessible,” Mukiibi concluded.
KCB Bank remains committed to restoring confidence in the sector by supporting developers, surveyors, lawyers, investors and other industry players through innovative financing solutions.
