An Op-ed By Bonny Brown Olwa
I would like to appreciate you the president for your your dedication to national building, social economic transformation to the people of the Republic of Uganda. Most importantly I would like to appreciate you for ensuring that there is total peace in the country.
Today, Uganda is free from any insurgency and Ugandans can trade 24/7 from East to West and from south to North without any disturbance. Not withstanding the your efforts to restore peace in the entire great lakes region. Sir this is a remarkable achievement that have enabled Uganda transform to a middle income country.
Today however, I write to you on one area of concern and that is the issue of crime at community level. Your excellency this is the only area of insecurity that is distabalising the economy. Today, you can’t start a piggery, chicken rearing project and it survives from petty thieves. To the extent that even people’s plantations are being harvested off by thieves.
Houses and shops are being broken into at night by young petty thieves spoilt in marijuana. In Lango they call this thieves owuwuk, in Acholi they call them Aguuu, in Teso they call them iwokwok and even in kampala am told they call them kiffessi. These people are distabalising our economy by killing all small enterprises that would spar our people to join the money economy.
Your excellency, I register my appeal to you to handle this matter. I remain a loyal carder of the National Resistance Movement and also your passionate supportor
