LIRA – North Kyoga Region Police have arrested 34 suspects in two separate night operations conducted on the night of , July 5, 2026, as part of an intensified crackdown on robbery, theft, assault, and illicit drug abuse.
According to the North Kyoga Region Police Spokesperson, SP Patrick Jimmy Okema, the Division Police Commander of Lira City East Division led an operation in Uhuru Bar and Angwet-angwet areas, resulting in the arrest of 26 people.
SP Okema said the operation was prompted by rising reports of robbery, theft, assault, and the rampant abuse of illicit drugs in the division.
“The suspects will be presented in court within one to two days. This is aimed at reducing fear and insecurity caused by these individuals,” Okema told journalists during a press briefing on Monday.
He added that the operation will be sustained, noting that “Lira City Police are determined to arrest and prosecute those causing insecurity in the communities.”
In a related operation, the Oyam District Police Commander also arrested 8 suspects in Kamdini Town Council
SP Okema said reports indicate the group was involved in robbery, theft, and the abuse of illicit drugs within Kamdini Town Council.
All arrests were made during coordinated night operations on 5th July 2026 Police say similar operations will continue across North Kyoga Region to restore public order and safety.
