LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM — In a major move to bridge cultural heritage with global investment and diaspora mobilization, the Paramount Chief (Won Nyaci) of Lango, His Royal Highness Eng. Dr. Michael Moses Odongo Okune, has arrived in the United Kingdom for a high-profile, five-day official tour. Arriving at Gatwick Airport, the cultural leader was warmly received by executive leaders of the Lango diaspora community alongside representative officials from the Ugandan State House Trade and Investment Bureau for the UK and Europe. The visit underscores a concerted effort to foster socio-economic ties between Northern Uganda and its international community while showcasing Lango’s cultural institution on a global stage.

Central to his itinerary is the promotion of national pride and unity as HRH Eng. Dr. Odongo Okune joins diplomatic envoys and Ugandans living abroad to mark Uganda’s 64th Independence Anniversary on October 9 at the Ugandan High Commission in London. Commemorated under the theme “Embracing Our Sovereignty with Hope and Visionary Leadership,” the event provides a platform for the Paramount Chief to reinforce the role of traditional institutions in driving sustainable development, peaceful coexistence, and visionary leadership both at home and across the diaspora.

Beyond ceremonial duties, the visit carries strong spiritual and strategic significance for the Lango sub-region. Shortly after his arrival, the Won Nyaci met at the Chelsea Harbour Hotel with former Minister of Education and international evangelist Hon. Prof. Isaac Newton Ojok. Prof. Ojok offered dedicated prayers for lasting peace across Uganda and invoked divine wisdom and humility for the Paramount Chief as he leads his people into a new era.

Coupled with planned town hall discussions with the UK Lango diaspora, targeted tours of commercial farms and enterprises, and meetings with key international figures, HRH Eng. Dr. Odongo Okune’s mission focuses heavily on inspiring unity, securing diaspora-led economic partnerships, and charting a prosperous future for the Lango community.
