PM Nabbanja Donates Shs10 Million to Loro Catholic Parish in Oyam

LORO, OYAM DISTRICT — Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja has donated Shs10 million towards the purchase of chairs and development of St. Mary’s Catholic Parish in Loro, Oyam District.

Nabbanja through the Oyam district woman MP Hon Santa Alum Ogwang made the contribution during the opening of the church and celebrations at the parish, where she commended the Catholic Church for its continued contribution to social and economic development in communities.

She said the Church has played an important role in supporting government programmes and mobilising communities, particularly through initiatives such as the Parish Development Model (PDM), Emyooga and other government interventions aimed at improving household incomes and livelihoods.

According to Nabbanja, the contribution would be used to purchase chairs and other construction materials required to advance work on the church building .

Oyam District Member of Parliament Santa Alum Ogwang welcomed Nabbanja’s contribution and commended Christians of Loro Catholic Parish for their commitment to the construction project.

Alum particularly recognised the work of the parish priest, Fr. Peter Panya, and the Christian community, saying their determination and collective effort had enabled the construction of the church to make significant progress.

Alum also thanked Members of Parliament from Lango and other parts of Uganda for contributing financially and supporting the construction project.

The legislator pledged to continue mobilising additional support for development initiatives in Lango, saying leaders have a responsibility to work together to attract resources and promote projects that benefit communities.

Bishop Emeritus Joseph Franzelli congratulated the Christians of Loro Parish for their commitment, sacrifice and perseverance in seeing the church construction project through.

He encouraged the faithful to maintain their unity and continue supporting the project until all outstanding works are completed.

Meanwhile Bishop Santus Lino Wanok the ordinary of Lira diocese, who led the prayers during the celebrations, called on church leaders, political leaders and Christians to continue working together for the development of the Church and the wider community.

Wanok emphasised the importance of unity and cooperation among leaders and faithful, urging them to put aside differences and work collectively.

The event at Loro Catholic Parish also coincided with the Catholic Church’s annual celebration of the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, observed every year on August 15.

The feast commemorates the Catholic belief that the Virgin Mary was taken body and soul into heavenly glory at the end of her earthly life.

The celebration brought together Catholic faithful, religious leaders, political leaders and other members of the community for prayers, thanksgiving and fellowship.

The occasion also provided an opportunity for the faithful to renew their commitment to the development of the parish and mobilise additional support for the purchase of the church.

The Loro project is part of the wider efforts by Catholic communities in the region to establish and improve places of worship and related facilities to serve growing congregations.
