AMOLATAR | Police in Amolatar District are holding Mr. Opio Jaspher, the Director of King of Kings Secondary School, following allegations of obtaining money by false pretence from a parent under the guise of registering her child for national examinations.
The suspect was arrested following a formal complaint lodged on October 12, 2026, at Amolatar Central Police Station by 42-year-old Betty Adero, a resident of Angaoryemi Cell, Aweipeko Ward in Namasale Town Council, Amolatar District.
According to preliminary police investigations, on June 8, 2026, Mr. Opio Jaspher allegedly collected UGX 210,000 (Two Hundred Ten Thousand Uganda Shillings) from Ms. Adero. The money was intended for registering her daughter, Susan Angom, for her examinations at the institution.
However, the school director failed to register the student as agreed, prompting the parent to seek police intervention.
A case file of obtaining money by false pretence has since been officially registered at Amolatar Central Police Station.
Confirming the arrest, North Kyoga Regional Police Spokesperson SP Patrick Jimmy Okema stated that statement taking is underway as investigations progress.
“Statements from the complainant and the suspect have already been recorded, and the suspect remains in police custody,” SP Okema said. “We are yet to record additional statements from relevant witnesses and the victim herself to complete the file before submitting it to the Resident State Attorney for perusal and legal guidance.”
The police administration has issued a stern warning to school administrators and headteachers against engaging in fraudulent practices that derail students’ education and defraud unsuspecting parents.
“We wish to caution directors of schools and headteachers against such bad practices. This must stop. Anyone who involves themselves in such acts will be apprehended and charged accordingly,” SP Okema warned.
