The Production Officer of Lira City Council, Mr. Bruno Akejo, has urged agro input dealers in Lango to stop selling fake products and instead prioritize quality inputs that will improve farm yields.
Akejo made the call during a major Lango stakeholders’ meeting organized by Brownlee and Family Agro Inputs in partnership with Uganda Crop Care Limited at Veranda Hotel, Ober, in Lira City West Division.
Speaking at the event, Akejo, who also oversees agriculture, animal husbandry and fisheries in Lira City, said the problem of counterfeit agro inputs being sold to farmers remains a major challenge in the region.
He called on dealers to be vigilant and ensure that only genuine, quality inputs reach farmers.
“Farmers deserve inputs that work. As dealers, you must sell the right products and also guide farmers on how to use them properly so that we can improve production in Lango,” Akejo said.
He further challenged agro input dealers to share knowledge on proper farming practices to ensure agriculture in Lango is done correctly and sustainably.
Also speaking at the meeting, Mr. Fred Alele, Director of the United Nations Development Account (UNDA) for the Lango sub-region, emphasized that for the agro input sector and agriculture to grow, there must be teamwork and increased farmer sensitization.
“For agro inputs and agriculture to grow bigger, we need teamwork, proper record keeping, and continuous training. We must stop fake products and support farmers with the right information,” Alele said.
The meeting brought together agro input dealers, district officials, and development partners to discuss ways of improving input quality, dealer regulation, and farmer education in Lango.
The engagement is part of ongoing efforts by Lira City and development partners to promote genuine agricultural inputs and improve productivity among farmers in Northern Uganda.
