KAMPALA – The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) on Tuesday officially handed over FUFA Stadium, Kadiba to the National Council of Sports (NCS) for a major pitch redevelopment, as Uganda steps up preparations to host the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2027.

The facility, which served as a training venue during the recently concluded African Nations Championship (CHAN), will now undergo further upgrades to meet CAF standards ahead of the continental showpiece that Uganda will co-host with Kenya and Tanzania.

According to FUFA, the redevelopment will focus on three key areas:
Playing surface to meet international pitch standards
Floodlights – for night matches and training
Drainage system– to ensure playability during the rainy season

The upgrades are part of Uganda’s broader plan to have world-class training venues ready to support teams during AFCON 2027.

The brief handover ceremony was witnessed by:
Hon. Peter Ogwang, Minister of State for Sports
Ambrose Tashobya, NCS Chairman
FUFA delegation led by President Hon. Magogo Moses Hassim
Representatives from the Ministry of Works and Transportand the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs

Speaking at the event, officials emphasized that the handover marks “another critical step”in ensuring Uganda’s football infrastructure is ready and compliant for Africa’s biggest football tournament.

Kadiba Stadium is one of several venues earmarked to serve as official team training bases during AFCON 2027, alongside Namboole, St. Mary’s Kitende, and Lugogo.

With works set to begin immediately, FUFA and NCS say the goal is to deliver a facility that matches CAF requirements in time for 2027.
