A shocking case of attempted murder has been reported in Moyo District, where a newborn baby boy was rescued alive from a pit latrine at Moyo General Hospital.
According to police under reference MOYO CPS CRB 103/2026, the incident occurred on the night of April 9, 2026, after the hospital’s Medical Superintendent notified authorities of a distressing situation involving an abandoned infant.
At approximately 7:00 a.m., an unidentified individual reportedly entered one of the hospital’s pit latrines. Moments later, hospital support staff heard a baby crying from inside the pit. Alarmed by the cries, they quickly alerted hospital administration, who immediately contacted the police.
Officers responded promptly, secured the scene, and successfully rescued the baby boy alive from the latrine. The infant was taken for medical attention, while detectives and the District Scene of Crime Officer (SOCO) documented the scene. Blood samples were also collected from both the scene and the baby to support forensic investigations.
Police confirmed that a female suspect, identified as Christine, was arrested at the scene and is currently under guard at Moyo General Hospital for medical observation.
Preliminary findings indicate that the suspect had recently moved from Terego District to Moyo, where she was working at a kiosk in Moyo Town. During questioning, she admitted to having given birth to the baby and stated that, due to fear and distress about raising the child alone, she decided to dispose of the infant by throwing him into the pit latrine.
Authorities in the North West Nile Region, led by SP Asea Collins, say efforts are underway to trace the suspect’s relatives in Terego District, whom she claims could provide support. Investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances and motive behind the incident.
The rescued baby remains under medical care, and more details will be provided as inquiries continue.
