The Superintendent of Police in charge of Express Penalty Scheme, Patrick Nyeko Kilama has defended the decision by road contractors to place speed bumps along major roads with in Mbale City.
Nyeko, in phone interview on The Morning Shake Up this morning said the move is aimed at regulating the speed of motorists within the city who tend to be reckless on the roads.
He notes that Mbale has a young population with many motorists tending to show excitement while on the roads which has led to an increase in the number of road crashes.
He added that the decision was made by the city council in collaboration with the contractors following statistics from the Police Traffic Directorate which showed a daily average of four road crashes within the city center.
However, Nyeko, also called upon the contractor to place road signs along routes with bumps in order to alert motorists that are not conversant with the roads.
