This has been the third edition of the Tusker Lite Mt. Rwenzori Marathon, organised by Amos Wekesa, a businessman, entrepreneur, and corporate executive in Uganda.
Abel Chelangat and Emily Chebet have been crowned the male and female winners of the third edition of the Tusker Lite Mt. Rwenzori Marathon in the 42-kilometre race that took place today in the scenic town of Kasese. Meanwhile, Abel Chebet and Chelegat Rebecca won the 21-kilometre race, respectively.
Amos Wekesa, the Director of Equator Hikes, the organisers of the marathon, said that the event is beginning to gain recognition on the world stage, noting that they registered runners from 33 countries this year.
The Rwenzori Mountain Ranges, renowned for their breathtaking beauty, provided a stunning backdrop to the marathon, attracting thousands of participants. Even the elderly and runners of varying abilities took part in the races, making it an inclusive event that encouraged community involvement, Wekesa said.
Hon. Godfrey Baluku Kabyanga, the State Minister for ICT and National Guidance, described Kasese as a tourist destination in Uganda.
The State Minister for Tourism, Hon. Tom Mugara Bahinduka, urged runners in Kasese to keep practising in order to win next year’s marathon.
The Rev. Sisters from the Congregation of St. Thérèse of the Child Jesus participated in the marathon, led by Sr. Sarah Muhindo, the Director of Kasese Guide Radio.
