The MPs in Pader district are urging the government to prioritise the GROW project in the district for local women, ensuring that progress benefits the majority of residents, not just the well-off, as is currently the case.
Aciro Paska Menya, the Woman MP for Pader district, stated that the GROW Project is not benefiting women at the grassroots level; it has largely been restricted to already established women.
During the celebration of International Women’s Day on Saturday, 29th March 2025, Aciro appealed to the Minister of Works and Transport to relay the voices of the women of Pader to the President as he attends Cabinet meetings. She emphasised that the women are demanding the prioritisation of the GROW Project for local women at the grassroots level.
Aciro urges women to avoid laziness, emphasising that instead of finger-pointing, they should support one another.
Komakech Christopher, MP for Aruu county, attributes the slow progress of the GROW project to negative mindsets towards the Acholi people.
However, Komakech expressed gratitude towards the ruling government for its efforts in helping the Acholi people regain peace in the sub region.
Empowering women in the 29 parishes and 2 town councils, Komakech revealed that women in each parish received UGX 600,000, Pader town council received UGX 10 million, and Puranga town council received UGX 4 million to boost their businesses.
