Christians at Blessed Daudi Okelo and Jildo Irwa Catholic Church in Pader town council have been encouraged to love one another during this Holy Week leading up to the Easter celebrations.
The message was delivered by Rev. Father Stephen Opoka, Parish Priest of Blessed Daudi Okelo and Jildo Irwa Catholic Church, Pader Town Parish, during Mass on Palm Sunday yesterday at the church.
Palm Sunday marks the final week of the Lenten period and the beginning of Holy Week for Christians.
Rev. Father Opoka emphasised the significance of this Holy Week in the lives of Christians, as it commemorates the ultimate sacrifice of Christ, our Saviour, whose actions we celebrate during this time.
He also spoke about the institution of the sacrament of the Holy Eucharist, which not only forgives our sins but also makes Christ present among us in the form of bread and wine.
He also spoke about the institution of the sacrament of Holy Orders, where disciples are commissioned to act rightly in Christ’s name, just as He has done for others, so that all may be saved.
Father Opoka emphasised that the three days—Thursday, Friday, and Saturday—are equally important, as they represent the period during which Christians prepare, awaiting the news of Christ’s burial and His resurrection.
These three days, known as the Easter Triduum in the Church, will feature the Way of the Cross on Friday. The journey will include 14 stations at different locations around the town, beginning from the church and ending at Paipir Chapel.
