Residents of Pader district continue to live in fear and anxiety following the latest sighting of a stray buffalo in Paiula sub county on the evening of Friday, 11th April 2025.
Justine Mukasa Oruma, a local resident, reports that the stray buffaloes have been spotted in the villages of Dejuru Kekomic and Ogan within Paiula sub county, wandering among the cattle.
This comes after the first incident in Aluka East village, Pukor sub county, on Tuesday, where Charles Olara, the village chairperson, alerted authorities after sighting the stray animal.
Anywar George, LC3 Chairperson of Paiula sub county, has confirmed the second buffalo sighting. He also urges the community to remain vigilant and alert.
Richard Rugyenda Muhabwe, Chief Warden of Kidepo Valley Conservation Area, has acknowledged receipt of the complaints from the DISO’s office. He stated that efforts are currently underway to assess the level of aggression exhibited by the buffaloes, with the aim of ensuring they are safely returned to the park.
Komakech Richard Obina, the Assistant RDC of Pader district, confirmed the incursion of the stray buffaloes but added that they have since left the area. He called for heightened community vigilance and warned against attacking the roaming buffaloes.
