The Acting Director of Lira Regional Referral Hospital, Dr. Andrew Odur, has challenged students to focus on becoming job creators rather than job seekers.

Dr. Odur made the remarks while officiating as chief guest at a ceremony held on Sunday 12th April,2026 at St. Gracious Secondary School main campus in Boke Ward, organized to welcome Senior One and Senior Five students.

He noted that many learners pursue education primarily to secure employment, yet job opportunities continue to shrink despite the rising number of graduates. He therefore encouraged students to use the knowledge and skills they acquire in school to create employment opportunities for themselves and others.

During the same event, Dr. Odur flagged off Solomon Atine, a Senior Six student who will represent Uganda at the International Mendeleev Chemistry Olympiad scheduled to take place in Moscow, Russia from April 15th to 23rd, 2026.

Meanwhile, the school principal, Martin Ojok Anyuru, emphasized the importance of education as a powerful tool for transforming society. He urged both students and parents to remain committed to academic excellence, noting that education remains key to a brighter future.
