The Aswa West Regional Police Headquarters, together with the territorial and divisional command, has assured members of the public that it will fully carry out its statutory mandate of protecting life and property during the Easter season.
In a press statement issued on 1 April 2026, ASP Ongom David Mudong, the Police Public Relations Officer for Aswa West, noted that the Easter season is characterised by extensive merrymaking, heightened excitement, large congregational church gatherings and overnight prayers, as well as increased movement between towns and villages, music performances and other related activities. He, however, warned that some individuals may seek to exploit the festive period to engage in criminal activities such as terrorism, defilement, rape, housebreaking and theft, as well as alcohol and drug abuse, among others.
Mr Mudong therefore urged the public to remain vigilant, adding that the Police will ensure law and order is maintained to guarantee peaceful Easter celebrations.
Mr Mudong also tasked hotel and leisure facility owners with putting in place stricter security measures at entrances and within their premises, including conducting checks and profiling individuals seeking accommodation in hotels and guest houses. He added that the Police will carry out regular inspections of such establishments, and those deemed to pose security threats will not be allowed to operate.
Students intending to travel home for the Easter holidays have been cautioned to avoid accepting free lifts from strangers and instead use recognised public transport. They have also been advised to avoid non-relatives offering free accommodation, and to report any suspicious individuals to the Police for prompt intervention.
The Police has reassured the general public that it is ready to work closely with local communities and will handle all complaints with the utmost attention they deserve.
He wished everyone a happy and peaceful Easter.
