Alebtong security warns unregistered voters against disrupting LC1 elections,

The security authorities in Alebtong District have cautioned unregistered voters against disrupting the electoral process on Tuesday 28th July 2026.

The warning was issued by the Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Geoffrey Okiswa, during an exclusive telephone interview with the Radio Wa News Desk.

According to the RDC, the caution follows an incident in Omoro Sub-county where the Village Women Council elections were temporarily disrupted after some residents claimed that their names were missing from the village voters’ register.

However, Okiswa explained that, based on a report from the Alebtong District Returning Officer, Michael Olobo, the affected individuals had failed to update their details in the village voters’ register, mistakenly believing that their names in the national voters’ register would automatically qualify them to vote in the village elections.

He warned that a similar situation could arise during the LC1 chairperson elections and stressed that the voters’ register cannot be amended at this stage. He therefore urged those whose names are missing to refrain from causing confusion and instead allow duly registered voters to exercise their democratic rights peacefully.

The RDC further appealed to residents to remain calm, adhere to electoral guidelines, and participate peacefully in the elections. He encouraged voters to choose competent leaders who will effectively serve their communities.

Meanwhile, the Assistant Resident District Commissioner (ARDC), Jimmy Okello, called on the Electoral Commission to involve local leaders, particularly LC1 chairpersons, in future voter registration and verification exercises.

Okello argued that many eligible voters may have missed the registration and verification exercise because LC1 chairpersons were allegedly not adequately involved in mobilizing community members.

Security and district leaders have appealed to all residents to respect the electoral process, maintain peace, and work with the Electoral Commission to ensure credible village elections while addressing voter registration challenges ahead of future polls.
