Okwerodot leaders order crackdown on parents over school absenteeism

Leaders in Okwerodot Sub-county, Kole District, have resolved to launch a strict enforcement operation targeting parents and guardians who fail to send their school-age children back to school when the third term begins on September 14, 2026.

The resolution was announced by Pere Denis, the LC3 Chairperson, following a security meeting held yesterday at the sub-county headquarters.

Pere directed all parents and guardians to ensure their children report to school on September 14, warning that enforcement teams, working alongside police, will actively identify and take action against negligent parents in accordance with the law.

He said sub-county and parish leaders will conduct door-to-door operations to identify school-age children who have not returned to school and ensure they resume their studies.

The security meeting also resolved to restrict the nighttime movement and transportation of livestock as part of efforts to curb a surge in animal theft.

Pere said livestock will only be allowed to move between 7:00 AM and 6:00 PM and must be accompanied by an official letter of ownership and identification issued by the respective LC1 Chairperson.

Local leaders warned that any livestock found being moved at night will be impounded.

The enforcement measures are intended to address rising school dropout rates and parental negligence while strengthening community efforts to prevent livestock theft.
