Mentor High student wins National Physics Contest

A Senior Two student of Mentor High School in Lira City, Tina Hope Adongo, has emerged the overall best performer in Category Two of the 2026 National Physics Contest organized by the Uganda Physics Society.

Adongo was declared the best student in the country following the physics competition, which was held last term at Lira University in Lira City.

She received a medal during an award ceremony held on Saturday 19th September , 2026 at Makerere University in Kampala in recognition of her outstanding performance.

Speaking to Radio Wa News, the Director of Mentor High School, Geoffrey Odur, also known as Odur Mentor, said Adongo’s achievement has brought pride and recognition to the school and Lira City.

Odur described the accomplishment as a significant milestone for Mentor High School, saying the school’s management is committed to identifying and nurturing students’ talents so they can compete and excel at both national and international levels.

He said education should go beyond academic examinations by helping schools identify and develop students’ abilities in different fields. Odur added that the school had identified Adongo’s potential in Physics and supported her to develop it.

Odur further congratulated Adongo for making Mentor High School and the Lango sub-region proud, particularly after competing successfully against students from established schools, including Mengo Senior School, Kibuli Secondary School and Nalya Secondary School, among others.

Speaking after receiving the award, Adongo expressed gratitude for being named the best performer in the 2026 National Physics Contest.

She commended the school administration for recognizing and promoting students’ talents, while also appreciating her teachers for their guidance and support throughout her preparation for the competition.

Adongo also thanked her parents from Akwete in Otuke District for supporting her education and encouraging her to pursue academic excellence.

Adongo’s achievement adds to the growing recognition of academic talent from Lira City and the wider Lango sub-region, while highlighting the role of schools, teachers and parents in identifying and nurturing students’ potential.
