APAC DISTRICT –The Member of Parliament for Maruzi County, Hon. Peter Obong Acuda, has donated a mortuary refrigerator worth Shs75 million to Akokoro Health Centre IV in Apac District to improve the preservation of bodies.
Speaking to our news reporter in an exclusive telephone interview, Acuda said the refrigerator, which can preserve up to six bodies, was purchased from China using his August parliamentary salary.
He said the donation was intended to give back to the people of Maruzi County in appreciation of their support during the 2026 general elections.
Acuda added that the equipment would help address challenges arising from inadequate mortuary services and ease the burden on families who lose their loved ones.
Meanwhile, James Opio, a clinical officer and the in-charge of Akokoro Health Centre IV, confirmed receipt of the refrigerator, describing the donation as timely.
Opio said Acuda had contacted him earlier to inform him about the equipment, adding that he was pleased to receive a refrigerator capable of preserving six bodies.
However, Opio appealed to the Apac District Local Government to prioritise the construction of a mortuary building at the facility.
He explained that Akokoro Health Centre IV has been operating without a mortuary since it was upgraded from Health Centre III to Health Centre IV in July 2025.
Opio said constructing a dedicated mortuary would enable the facility to make full use of the donated refrigerator and improve services for bereaved families.
The donation is expected to strengthen body preservation services at the health centre, while the appeal for a mortuary building places responsibility on the district to address the facility’s remaining infrastructure needs.
