The Member of Parliament for Kole South Constituency, Hon. Henry Boniface Okot, has called on the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development to urgently intervene and address persistent electricity outages affecting Kole District and the wider Lango sub-region.
Okot raised the concern during a parliamentary sitting on Wednesday 4th November,2026 and chaired by the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Jacob Oboth-Oboth.
The legislator singled out Bala Town Council in Kole District, which he said had experienced a prolonged power outage lasting four consecutive days, disrupting businesses and other essential activities that depend on electricity.
He urged the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development to work towards finding a lasting solution to the recurring interruptions, warning that continued blackouts are affecting livelihoods and economic activities.
Okot further noted that technicians from the Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited (UEDCL) had reportedly attempted to restore electricity, but their efforts had not resolved the problem, leaving residents and business operators struggling without power.
Meanwhile, the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Jacob Oboth-Oboth, acknowledged the concerns raised by the legislator, noting that persistent power outages were not limited to Kole District or the Lango sub-region but were affecting several parts of the country.
The Speaker pointed to what he described as significant challenges within UEDCL, calling for urgent government commitment and intervention to address the widespread electricity disruptions.
The concerns raised in Parliament highlight the growing impact of unreliable electricity supply on businesses, service delivery and household activities. Residents and business operators are now looking to government and UEDCL for urgent intervention and a sustainable solution to the persistent power outages.
