Former aspirant for LCV chairperson for Lira district Caxton Etii has been elected as the new Awitong of Pala-Otara clan.
Alfred Okello Abala, the chairperson Electoral Commission (EC) for Pala-Otara clan confirmed the update during a telephone interview with our reporter.
Okello explained that after the disagreement between the candidates regarding the preliminary results on Sunday 10th, the commission decided to pause the declaration. However, he confirmed that following the meeting held on 12th May, 2026 with the council of elders-Owitong at Adyel primary school, the declaration was then made in favor of Etii who garnered a total of 1,746 votes while his counterpart John Peter Okello attained 1,727 votes.
He stated that although there was disagreement between the candidates, the election was free and fair in all the polling stations within the Lango sub-region. He commended the clan members of Pala-Otara for their active participation in the elections.
Okello told Radio Wa that a period of 14 days have been given to allow anyone who is not contented with the election results to petition the office of the Electoral Commission before enthronement.
Meanwhile, Caxton Etii, the newly elected Awitong for Pala-Otara clan, lauded the clan members for entrusting him with the leadership position. He encouraged them to embrace unity for a noble course
John Peter Okello, the second runner up, acknowledged the defeat though he admitted some challenges during the elections.
Caxton Etii, has replaced Yubention Obongo who served Pala-Otara clan from 2007- May 2026.
