Kyoga County MP Angwech demand immediate government intervention for families displaced by severe flooding

The Kyoga County MP Colline Angwech have urged the Parliamentary Committee on Climate Change to secure immediate government intervention for thousands of families displaced by severe flooding.

Angwech made urgent appeal during a three-day field assessment tour in the Lango sub-region by the committee, led by Chairperson Hon. Aggrey Henry Bagiire

Legislator demanded immediate central government intervention to support over 20,000 families displaced by severe floods especially in Muchora Parish, where eight villages have been cut off by the flooded Ocomboli swamp since 2020, forcing residents to rely on canoes to access essential services.

She added that tragically, nine people lost their lives in 2025 in a canoe accident while crossing the swamp.

She also raised the challenges of flooding across the district and its impact on settlements, roads and infrastructure, agriculture, fisheries, access to health and education, businesses and householdlivelihoods

Hon. Aggrey Henry Bagiire, the Chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee on Climate Change in the Parliament and Bunya County West MP pledged to compile its findings and present a comprehensive report and resolution to the floor of Parliament following field assessments in flood-disaster communities .

The committee is currently leading parliamentary oversight assessments on climate change impacts, including field inspections across flood- and drought-affected regions like the Lango sub-region (Apac, Amolatar, Kwania, Lira, and Dokolo districts).
