Wisdom High School Akalo nears accreditation as FUFA grade two academy

Wisdom High School Akalo in Kole District is in the final stages of registration as a Grade Two Football Academy under the FUFA Schools of Excellence Programme, with the accreditation process expected to be completed on Friday, 31 July.

The development was revealed by Daniel Omara, the Chief Executive Officer of the School of Excellence at Wisdom High School, during an interview with our reporter.

Omara said the school has been designated as the regional hub for the FUFA Girls’ Talent Development Programme, covering the Northern and West Nile regions, while also providing sports development opportunities for both girls and boys.

He explained that under the school’s current sports framework, 40 sports bursaries are available annually, comprising 20 football scholarships for girls and 20 for boys.

Omara further revealed that the institution is currently registering Grade Three and Grade Certified Talent Identification Scouts, who will be responsible for identifying players, assessing their technical abilities and overall performance, and compiling talent assessment reports.

Ogwal maintains that the sports development opportunities under the programme focus on both girls and boys.

The school’s Games Master, Dickens Opio, said Wisdom High School was selected as a School of Excellence following a comprehensive assessment that considered academic performance, institutional capacity, value addition, and holistic learner development.

According to Opio, the evaluation focused on four key areas: academic value addition, consistent academic performance, a balanced curriculum, and a robust continuous assessment system.

He called upon parents, guardians, and the wider community to support the newly launched FUFA Schools of Excellence Programme, describing it as an initiative that combines elite youth football training with quality formal education.

Meanwhile, the Executive Director of Wisdom High School, Ambrose Ogwal, said becoming an official regional hub under the FUFA Schools of Excellence Programme will provide young footballers with greater opportunities to develop and showcase their talents.

Ogwal noted that the programme will offer competitive sports training, educational bursaries, and opportunities to host regional youth football competitions and cultural talent showcases.

He added that the planned construction of a modern 10,000-seater multi-sports stadium will not only nurture sporting talent but also provide a venue for community events, stimulate local economic growth, and position Kole District as a regional centre for sports development.

Wisdom High School signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) on 15 April 2026. The agreement officially designated the school as the regional centre for the Girls’ Talent Development Programme, serving the Northern and West Nile regions under the nationwide FUFA Schools of Excellence Programme.
