The police at Otuke Central Police Station have taken a 19-year-old man into custody over allegations of defiling a 14-year-old girl.

Speaking to our Radio Wa on Tuesday morning, Obongo William, the LC1 chairperson of Apungere village in Acan-Pii parish, Ogwete sub-county, confirmed the arrest of Ezekel Otim, who lives in the same area. He was accused of defiling a minor who is also a P.5 pupil at a primary school in Otuke district.

Obongo told Radio Wa that Mr. Otim was apprehended around 2:00 AM on Sunday after he was reportedly found in a room with the minor.

The chairman added that the suspect was initially taken to Olilim Police Outpost before being moved to Otuke Central Police Station for further investigation. The minor was also taken to the police to assist with the inquiry.

According to the minor, the suspect had allegedly assaulted her four times, which has led local leaders and police to treat the situation with utmost seriousness.

Meanwhile, Okeng Geoffrey, the clan chief for Okii-Teki in Olilim, Ogwete sub-county, and parts of Abim district, confirmed that the suspect is in police custody. As the clan leader for the victim, he has filed a statement at CPS.

Okeng mentioned that the victim’s birth certificate shows she was born in 2009, and he condemned the act of engaging in sexual relations with young girls. As a cultural leader, he does not support child marriages or early pregnancies among clan members. He urged the police to take this matter seriously and warned against referring it back to clan leaders.
