Lango FUFA Drum management threatens to resign over alleged shs 19.7 million payment dispute

The management committee of the Lango Province football team appointed by the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) to oversee the FUFA Drum tournament has threatened to withdraw from its responsibilities over the alleged mismanagement of Shs 19.7 million meant for the team’s activities and player facilitation.

The concerns were raised by Gom Belmos, who serves as the Public Relations and Media Officer for the Lango Province team, during a press conference held at Lira Uganda Technical College (UTC) on Sunday July 19th.

According to Gom, players and members of the technical team recently received championship bonuses following Lango Province’s victory in the fourth edition of the 2025 FUFA Drum tournament. However, he said the management committee that guided the team to its historic triumph had stepped aside and resigned in June, although the bank account signatories were reportedly not changed to reflect the new management.

He explained that FUFA officials confirmed payments of Shs 700,000 each to 30 beneficiaries comprising players and members of the technical team. Some of the beneficiaries included Obira Bob, Kyemera Ali, Opeto Ivan, Akullo Juliet, Ogwang Abel, Charles Opio Olol, Opio Moses, Obura Emmanuel, Maduka Innocent, Ocaya Herbert, Okello Ivan, Odonkara Emmanuel, and Alal Aron, among others.

Gom Belmos, however, questioned the allocation of the remaining Shs 19.7 million, which he said was intended to facilitate additional players who contributed to the team’s campaign but were not included among those paid. He called for accountability regarding the disbursement of the funds.

The committee is also demanding clarification over payments allegedly made to Alal Aron, Charles Opio Olol and Opio Moses, the former Northern Region Chairperson, arguing that the individuals were not entitled to the funds under the agreed payment arrangements.

He further claimed that several players who played a significant role during the tournament, particularly in the group stages and knockout rounds, had not received any payments. These include Aliro Moses, Musa Ramathan and Denis Omedi, despite their contribution to Lango Province’s successful campaign leading to the final.

By press time, efforts to obtain a response from the former Lango Province football management committee led by former chairperson Geoffrey Odur were unsuccessful.

The payment dispute has cast a shadow over Lango Province’s historic FUFA Drum triumph, with the management committee calling for transparency and accountability in the handling of tournament funds. It remains to be seen whether FUFA and the former management will respond to the allegations and clarify the circumstances surrounding the disputed payments.
