Rotary club donates life-saving maternal and newborn care equipment to Amolatar health center IV

The Rotary Club of Kiwatule, in partnership with the Ministry of Health, has donated and commissioned life-saving maternal and newborn healthcare equipment at Amolatar Health Centre IV to improve the quality of care for mothers and newborns and reduce preventable deaths during and after childbirth.

The equipment donated includes baby cots, Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC) chairs, radiant warmers, a pulse oximeter, Warm Embrace infant warmers, digital thermometers, and phototherapy machines.

Speaking during the handover ceremony at Amolatar Health Centre IV, Ms. Moureen Kisakye, a biomedical engineer with Nicosam, said the equipment will significantly improve newborn survival by helping to stabilize body temperature, support breathing, and provide specialized care for premature and vulnerable babies.

The team leader, Mr. Edward Nkanji, urged health workers and hospital management to ensure the equipment is properly installed, maintained, and put into immediate use. He cautioned against allowing the machines to become obsolete through neglect, stressing that regular maintenance is essential to sustaining reductions in infant mortality.

Meanwhile, the Kioga County Member of Parliament, Hon. Collins Angwec, commended the Rotary Club of Kiwatule for selecting Amolatar Health Centre IV to benefit from the donation, describing the equipment as a long-term investment in the health and well-being of mothers and newborns rather than a one-time charitable contribution.

The legislator called on healthcare workers to make effective use of the equipment to reduce preventable infant deaths, emphasizing that the machines should be used to save lives rather than remain unused in storage.

Hon. Angwec also noted that many organizations and individuals are complementing government efforts to improve healthcare services, adding that she has facilitated the acquisition of two ambulances to serve communities in Greater Muntu and Greater Namasale sub-counties.

The Vice Chairperson of Amolatar District and Leader of Government Business, Ms. Margaret Olul, applauded the Rotary Club of Kiwatule for supporting the district’s health sector and appealed to health workers to ensure the equipment is properly managed and maintained for the benefit of the community.

Health leaders say the newly commissioned equipment is expected to strengthen maternal and newborn healthcare services at Amolatar Health Centre IV. They have urged health workers to safeguard and effectively utilize the equipment to improve survival rates among mothers and newborns across the district.
