The long awaited Security Road connecting Odom, Komoro, Kworiken, Longor, and Orom, stretching 80 kilometers, has officially been launched in Agago District.
The ceremony, held on March 6, 2025, was officiated by the State Minister of Works, Hon. Musa Ecweru, and the Minister of Economic Monitoring, Hon. Beatrice Akello.
The road, with 18 kilometers already completed, is a strategic infrastructure project aimed at improving security in the region.
Agago District has long suffered from frequent attacks by Karamojong cattle rustlers, and the new road is expected to enhance the mobility of security forces, enabling them to respond swiftly to threats and conduct regular patrols.
The launch event was attended by Agago District leaders and members of the affected border communities, who have been advocating for improved security measures.
Hon. Stanley Odong Richard, the Secretary for Works and Technical Services in Agago District Local Government, praised the government for prioritizing the project.
“This road is a game-changer for our district. For years, security forces struggled to reach vulnerable areas quickly, but now, with better access, we expect significant improvements in peace and safety,” he said.
Residents, particularly those in subcounties bordering Karamoja, celebrated the road’s launch with enthusiasm.
Many expressed gratitude to the government for responding to their long-standing security concerns and voiced hope that the project would help curb cattle rustling and promote lasting peace in the region.
Samantha Akello, a resident of Odom village, Adilang subcounty shared her excitement,
“For a long time, we lived in fear, not knowing when the next attack would come. Now, with this road, we feel safer because security forces can reach us faster. We are grateful to the government for finally hearing our cries.”
With construction ongoing, authorities have assured residents of their commitment to completing the project as planned, reinforcing the government’s dedication to safeguarding the people of Agago.
