A 26-year-old man, Onyong Jimmy, was killed by a mob in Anyango B cell, Alela parish, Arum Sub county, Agago district, at around 11:00 PM on Saturday, 8 March 2025.
According to the police, a traditional dance was taking place in the village when Jimmy was seen rolling away an ox-plough, allegedly stolen from Ogwang Bosco.
When residents realised what was happening, they chased and attacked him, leading to his death before authorities could intervene.
Some residents claimed Jimmy was a known thief, and frustration over repeated thefts in the area may have fuelled the attack.
Omara Michael Oyugi, the Local Council II Chairperson of Alela parish, condemned the incident and called on residents to seek justice through legal means.
Jimmy Onying, the Local Council I Chairperson of Anyango B, also urged the community to cooperate with security officials to prevent similar incidents in the future.
The police have registered a case of murder by mob at Omot Police Post and conducted a post-mortem examination. Investigations are ongoing, and the suspects are still at large.
IP Oloya Joe, the spokesperson for Aswa East Region, urged the public to remain calm and assist the police in finding those responsible.
Authorities continue to warn against mob justice, emphasising that all crimes should be reported to the police for proper investigation and action.
