In this episode of Lok Pa Lapur (Farmers’ Voice), Agricultural and Livelihood Expert Thomas Oyo explains the importance of biodiversity and how different plants, animals, insects and microorganisms contribute to healthy and productive ecosystems.
The session explores the role of biodiversity in nature-based solutions, including how diverse ecosystems can improve soil health, support pollination, regulate water, control pests and strengthen communities’ resilience to environmental and climate changes.
Local examples of biodiversity are also discussed, alongside the threats posed by activities such as tree cutting, wetland degradation and unsustainable farming.
Farmers and community members contributed to the discussion, sharing their experiences and asking questions about biodiversity and environmental conservation. Their questions were addressed by the facilitator, providing practical guidance on protecting local ecosystems.
