Police in Agago district are investigating the mysterious death of a 49-year-old woman, Anek Rose, a resident of Lajokena central village, Tenge parish in Geregere sub county, who was found dead a day after attending a political celebration.

According to preliminary findings, Anek had attended a celebration on Monday, 6th May 2025, at the home of Odida Robert, who had just secured the NRM party flag in the LC1 primaries. The event, held in Geregere sub county, was reportedly attended by several members of the local community.

At around 9:00 a.m. during the celebration, Anek is said to have suddenly lost consciousness while seated on a chair. Witnesses reported that she was left to rest, with the hope that she would recover. However, in a tragic turn of events, she was found dead the following day—Tuesday, 7th May 2025—at around midday.

A case of sudden death has since been registered at Omot Police Post, and statements have been recorded from several individuals who were present at the event.

The deceased’s body has been transported to Kalongo Hospital Mortuary, where a post-mortem examination is being carried out. Medical staff have also collected samples for toxicological analysis to determine whether poisoning or any other substances may have been involved.

Police have not made any arrests in connection with the incident but say investigations are ongoing to piece together the circumstances surrounding Anek’s untimely death.

Speaking to the press, Inspector of Police (IP) Oloya Joe, the Regional Police Spokesperson for Aswa East Region, confirmed that inquiries are underway and urged the public to remain calm as the facts are established.
