Agago farmers embrace natural regeneration to restore degraded farmland

In this episode of Lok Pa Lapur (Farmers’ Voice), Agago District Agricultural Extension Officer Simon Odoch explains how Farmer-Managed Natural Regeneration (FMNR) can help farmers restore degraded land by protecting and managing trees that grow naturally from stumps, roots and seeds already present in the soil.

The session explores how FMNR can improve soil fertility, reduce soil erosion, restore biodiversity, conserve moisture and strengthen farmers’ resilience to changing weather conditions, while requiring minimal financial investment.

Farmers and community members also contributed to the discussion, sharing their experiences and asking questions about how FMNR can be applied on their farms. Their questions were addressed by the facilitator, providing practical guidance on adopting the practice.
