Over 180 women received their certificates in various fields, particularly literacy, where they gained knowledge in reading and writing. According to Mr. Mwogereza Richard, the Chief Executive Director of THE VINE, a non-governmental organisation supporting young children and women with its main branch in Kamuli Municipality, Kamuli District, the initiative was launched to assist women who were unable to read or write. The aim is to enable them to read signposts and make basic calculations, especially during harvest seasons.

He also explained that they plan to support young girls and women who have dropped out of school by providing skills training, such as tailoring, and offering startup capital, including sewing machines and cash, to help them become self-sufficient.

Mr Mwogereza also mentioned that they are working with the government to introduce vocational studies at the organisation’s campus, so that even men and boys can acquire survival skills. This initiative was requested by Mr Kagabo Denis, the Mayor of Kamuli Municipality, during his speech.

However, Mr Mukwana Joseph, the Speaker of Kamuli Municipality, urged the graduates to put into practice what they had learned and develop their skills so that they could support their husbands and families.

THE VINE Uganda is one of the non-governmental organisations working in Kamuli District to support girls and women. It should be noted that Kamuli District is the leading district in school dropouts, child marriages, and early pregnancies, which result in many living in difficult circumstances, especially young mothers.

Speaking to the graduates, they shared that they were determined to change their lives with the capital provided to them and commended the work done by THE VINE Uganda.
