Kamuli man arrested for allegedly killing a pupil over sugarcane

Police in Kamuli have arrested Balisanyuka Jonan for allegedly causing the death of a 15-year-old pupil.

The deceased has been identified as Bakaki Mathias, a pupil at Five Star Nursery and Primary School, Luzinga.

The incident occurred at Kibeto-Buyima zone, Luzinga parish, Wankoole sub county, Kamuli district.

Initial findings indicate that on the 19th of March 2025, at around 5:00 pm, Bakaki was returning from school with friends when they came across a heap of sugarcane, under the watch of Balisanyuka. When they attempted to take some cane to eat, Balisanyuka chased them, but Bakaki did not run away. The suspect then assaulted him, causing him to fall unconscious.

He was rushed to a nearby clinic, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Further investigations are ongoing to establish additional facts.
