Kampala City leads in accident contribution Nationawid

Throughout the world road traffic crashes cause more than 1.3 millions death annually and in low developing countries road accidents come number 7 in the leading cause of deaths.

Over 4.4 trillion about 5% of Uganda’s GDP is spend on reported road crashes according to the Economic commission for Europe UNECE.

In kampala alone, 236 people died in 2020  report of whom 80% were male and 58% of the deaths being caused by motorcyclists or bodabodas.

In 2021 Kampala Capita city Authority in the way to create awareness  launched a road safety Report which it indicated some of the high risk  locations where accidents claims lives and cause disabilities in the five city divisions of Kampala central Division, Rubaga Devision, Kawempe Division, Makindye Division and Nakawa Division

The report indicated that Bwaise Naalya rounds about on Northern bypass killed 49 in 2020,Masaka road 31, Jinja road Nakawa 11,Najjanakumbi 11 and Kampala road kibuye 8 while junstions of kubili, Mulago, Bwaise,Busega Queen’s way Nsambya have also killed 23.

While interacting with City Lord mayor Ssalongo Elias Lukwago says kampala has been receiving few resources from the Government and over 31% of the roads are not worked on properly and to him says Government should  prioritize Kampala road services to ease transport and reduction of accidents  through construction of modern roads.

Whereas Director Traffic and Road safety Lawrence Nuwabaine want that the Boda boda be regulated because they operate in the free zones which put controlling them hard and lead in causing accidents, wants the civil societies to come out and help them if possible they be sent out of the city.
