Lions threaten locals in Kanyangeya main cell in Kasese Municipality

Residents are living in fear over stray wild animals attacking them in Kasese Municipality.

The continued invasion of wild Animals from Queen Elizabeth National Park to residents of Kanyangeya Main cell in Kasese Municipality has left locals in fear of their lives, Kasese Guide Radio has learnt.

According to locals, wild animals frequently stray from the protected park into residential areas, putting lives and property at risk.

Mr. Laban Kiiza, a concerned resident, urged the government to speed up the construction of an electric fence along the park boundaries to prevent further incursions by wild animals.

Zainabu Muhindo, an 80-year-old resident, expressed concern that the presence of wild animals near her homestead has left her constantly afraid of an attack.

The General Secretary of Kanyangeya Main Cell, Mr. James Muthahinga, confirmed the incident in an interview with our reporter today noting that the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) rangers had alerted local leaders to advise residents to remain vigilant after lions were reportedly sighted in the area last week.
