Rev. Fr. Anyasio Mbusa, Director of Caritas Kasese, has called for the large-scale planting of fruit trees to enhance food security and promote sustainable household income.

Speaking to our reporter yesterday at his office in Kasese Town, Fr. Anyasio urged the public to fully embrace the message of Laudato Si’, the encyclical by the late Pope Francis, by working to make Mother Earth green through the protection of natural resources and efforts to combat global warming.

He encouraged farmers to take advantage of the current rainy season to plant and grow trees as a way of fighting climate change, and further urged the public to avoid using plastic materials and polythene bags.

A method of recycling plastics by using them to grow seedlings later transferred to nursery beds.
Fr. Anyasio encourages the community to plant trees, especially indigenous species, in line with the call of the late Pope Francis.

Earlier, Fr. Anyasio also urged farmers to plant indigenous trees and bamboo along riverbanks as a natural measure to mitigate flooding during the rainy season.
