Ugandans Should Embrace Volunteerism

As Uganda today joins the rest of the world to commemorate the International Volunteers‘ Day which is celebrated every 5th of Dec yearly. Ugandans have been urged to practice the spirit of volunteerism in different capacities they afford to impact positive change towards the development of their country and communities in which they live.

This message to all Ugandans have been revealed by Mr. Devu Kayangayanga  the director ministry of lands, housing and urban development representing Hon. Persis  Namuganza, the state minister for urban development. While addressing the media at the Uganda Media Center Kampala. Devu  Kayangayanga said that government treasures the good work done by volunteers in the country both individuals and organizations, adding that government has provided the opportunity for volunteering and will continue to embrace it for development via a number of ways like ensuring conducive working environment, just to mention .

Fred  Mukooli  the head of programs at Habitat for Humanity Uganda and NGO serving in construction of homes to the needy, speaking to the media in the same press briefing emphasized the need for voluntary work in communities and the country at large as a source of blessings since its Godly, source of skills generation networking among other merits. He added that as they mark 40 years of existence in Uganda, they have positively impacted on a number of lives via constructing for the needy affordable shelters totaling over 40,000 and still look towards serving the needy citizens to attain better shelter.

This year’s theme is  “SOLIDARITY THROUGH VOLUNTEERISM”
